CCTV Records the Robbery in Progress

Gendi Alpakasogi Tobing (25), a suspect in six mini-market robberies within the area of Tangerang City and Tangsel [South Tanggerang] Town was allegedly inspired by an online game. This was because of Gendi’s frequent visits to play video game in a minimarket located at Serpong area.

His motive was revealed when Serpong Police Chief Commissioner, Nico A Setiawan, and a journalist asked the suspect. The journalist went to the same school as the suspect – Bina Nusantara University (Binus).

“What inspired you to conduct the robbery this way? Is it because you often play online game such as Point Blank?” asked the Police Chief in Tangerang.

The suspect answered that question with a simple, “Yes”. When asked about the stolen money whereabouts, he replied that it hasn’t been spent.

“All the money is still with me, sir,” he replied.

As previously reported, Gendi who resides in Griya Gendi Loka BSD Serpong, South Tangerang city (Tangsel), was arrested while having a meal with his girlfriend, a Trisakti University student, at a restaurant in BSD Square.

The perpetrator was known to have no firearm. He had a lighter which looked similar to firearm.

Ibnutiangfei:

Inspiration for crimes can indeed come from anywhere ….

Asynchronous:

Wow, this is GTA [Grand Theft Auto] style, how could a game influence someone to commit robbery?

Revolutionary:

What’s the connection of PB [Point Blank] with robbery? Pretty sure it is just a made-up excuse to obtain a less harsh punishment.

AkuCintaNanae:

Really, 25 years old and he is still a student??? Is he studying for his Bachelor or Masters degree???

Ngintip.oye:

So sad… a student at university, yet his mindset is like that…

GapinRanggata:

Hmm, so bizarre, he must be mentally ill. We need to pay close attention to these situations. Game circulation should also be reviewed.

RainieLove:

Must have played too much video games, boss. Nasty.

Xtremecutez:

Seems rather similar to the plot of Jackie Chan’s movie “Policy Story 3” – robberies based on a video game.

Dendengmasik:

Such a pity for his parents who paid for his higher education but he chose to be a robber instead. Your future is now ruined, boy.

Toekidjan:

Stupid… Seems like he stole solely for self-satisfaction.

Tengil.com:

Seems that slacker kid did not want to work and just want to live comfortably.

Not4given

Hope there won’t be others who would be inspired by online games to kill people.

Mr.iy:

Must be embarrassing to be his girlfriend who had her meal paid with stolen money.

Simon1313ind:

Binus University is well-known for IT [Information Technology], that’s why many of their students live in the gaming world. Luckily, he didn’t turn into a psychopath who goes on a rampage a la GTA.

What do you think? Do you believe his criminal behavior was inspired by a video game? Do you think video games influence people’s behavior?
