Malaysia Won’t Cover Up Indonesian Worker Rape Case

The Malaysian government will not cover up the progress of the rape investigation of an Indonesian worker by three Malaysian police officers. If the accused are found guilty then they will be punished accordingly.

“We do not want to cover up this sensitive case. If they [the three police officers] are found guilty then it is a terrible act that we also can’t forgive,” said Malaysian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, as quoted by local media in Kuala Lumpur last Sunday.

Hishammuddin said that an impartial prosecution of three police officers charged with raping an Indonesian woman in Butterworth court, Penang, Friday was expected to ease tensions between Indonesia and Malaysia.

Any tensions between the two neighboring countries are always a challenge because it can eventually add stress to bilateral relations, he added. “I have no compassion and sympathy for them if its true they made this mistake. Because of the act of two or three individuals, the image of the entire police will be blemished. This should not be allowed and convictions will be done with unbiased sentences,” he said.

During the first trial at the Butterworth Court, the three police officers named Cpl Nik Mat Lazin Sin (33), Remy Konstabel son Dana (25) and Konstabel Syahiran Romli (21) were charged with raping an Indonesian woman in Perai Police Station on November 9th. However, all three pleaded not guilty and obtained bail for 25000 ringgit each.
