From Yahoo Indonesia:
Erick Thohir Shows Interest in Purchasing Inter Milan
One Indonesian entrepreneur who diligently invests in sports, Erick Thohir, is planning to expand his business. After buying shares in an U.S. soccer club, DC United, Erick Thohir is reportedly interested in buying shares of Italian soccer giant – Inter Milan.
Quoted from a page of Philly on Friday (10/5) as reported by Mediaset and Eurosport [sports websites], Erick Thohir had reportedly offered to purchase 51% majority stake owned by Massimo Moratti. However, the Inter Milan owner was only willing to sell 20% of his shares to this Indonesian businessman.
As reported by Philly, Erick Thorir was rumored to retract his interest in purchasing the football club after his bid was not fulfilled.
It is believed that Erick’s involvement in the Inter Milan football team could help their ambition to acquire a new stadium.
Inter Milan currently occupies the Gusseppe Meazza stadium which has a seating capacity of 80 thousand. The stadium is currently shared with its rival team, AC Milan. The stadium is renamed to San Siro whenever the team is playing. Both clubs rented the stadium from the local governments in Milan.
Erick Thohir has bought Massimo Moratti’s, the current owner, shares of the Inter Milan team. With this $475 million deal, Thohir and his International Sports Capital company now own 70% of Inter Milan
If that’s the case, it would be easier for Indonesian soccer players to transfer and play in Inter Milan. Mantap!
Baron Van Jogja:
WHAT A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!
He should focus on expanding DC United to be as successful as LA Galaxy first.
WOW! This businessman is so rich.
It’s not guaranteed that this investor is a fan of football/soccer. He could just be interested in the team’s business prospects. I bet he doesn’t care about football’s welfare in our nation. Hehe.
Wow. Indonesian businessmen are becoming more impressive!
Why doesn’t he invest in local football teams instead?
Hopefully the deal goes through. I would like to see Indonesian players in the Italian soccer league.
Indonesian soccer: I don’t think there’s any hope left
There’s so much mafia in the Italian soccer league who mess around with the game results. So unfair.
I’m going save my money to purchase shares in Manchester United.
Wow, a member of the corrupt in this country is starting to show off his money.
I’m also trying to save money but can only afford to purchase Juventus’ football jersey. LOL.
What do you think? Is it a good business investment to purchase a soccer team?
